Residentials and Visits

All year groups visit various parts of the island to support their learning. Such places include Mont Orgueil, Hamptonne, St Ouen's pond, Corbiere, La Hougue Bie, Fort Regent and even a local Chinese restaurant! Furthermore, extended visits are organised for the following year groups:

  • Year 4 spend a full day at crabbe
  • Year 5 do a three-day residential visit to St Ouen
  • Year 6 do a four-day residential visit to France

Forest school and outdoor learning

Forest school offers all learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands on learning experience in a Woodland or natural environment with trees. It is a specialised learning approach that sits within and complements the wider context of outdoor and Woodland education.

During forest school sessions pupils:

  • are equal, unique and valuable.
  • are competent to explore and discover.
  • experience appropriate risk and challenge.
  • choose, initiate and drive their own learning and development.
  • experience regular success.
  • develop positive relationships with themselves and other people.
  • develop a strong positive relationship with their natural world.

Eco Schools

Eco initiatives have become part of everyday life at JCP and we continue to hold the Green Flag Status, which was initially awarded to the school in 2011. We continue to successfully re-validate this award every year. The eco committee meet regularly and promote initiatives throughout the school year. Teachers identify eco related topics in their planning to ensure it is part of everyday learning.

Music profile and performance

Music has a high profile within the school and is highly valued by all. Every child receives an hour of music per week with a music specialist. Pupils also have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument in school either with the Jersey Music Service or with our own Junior Polyphony scheme which is linked to JCG.

Performance plays an essential part in a school year. The senior and junior choirs compete annually in the local music Eisteddfod, and many pupils perform in solo classes. KS2 perform in our annual Carol Service. The Senior Choir have the opportunity to sing in various community events. The annual House Music Competition, run by the year 6 Music captains, enables pupils in KS2 to compose, organise and perform their own musical compilations.
